Overview of Abigail Williams
Monday, February 13, 2017 was an unusually warm day. It was also an exciting day for Abby and Libby because they had the day off from school. The girls begged Libby’s older sister, Kelsi, to be dropped off at a local hiking trail to spend some time walking around and taking pictures of each other and the scenery. Around 1:38pm, Kelsi dropped both girls off at a parking lot just down the road from the main entrance to the Freedom Bridge trail. Shortly after, Libby called her dad, Derrick German, to arrange their pickup later. At 2:07pm, Libby takes a picture of Abby walking on the Monon High Bridge and posts it to her snapchat story. This picture would be the last communication from Abby or Libby.
Soon after, at 2:15pm, Libby recorded a video of a man walking towards them on the Monon High Bridge. The girls are murdered after this, presumably by the unidentified man they captured on the bridge. After the family is unable to reach Libby on her phone, the family searches for the girls through the trails. The girls are reported as missing by Libby’s grandfather, Mike Patty (Libby's grandfather) at 5:20pm, and a police search begins shortly after. After no trace of the girls is found, the search ends after 11pm, with plans to continue the search in the morning.
On the afternoon of Valentine’s Day 2017, one day after the girls went missing, both of their bodies were found by search parties and foul play was immediately suspected. Because of the video Libby captures, there is a suspect who is described as a white man, between 18 and 40 years-old, with reddish brown hair. The suspect is between 5'6 and 5'10 tall and weighs around 180-200lbs, according to police.
Despite intense interest by the general public and national media, Abby and Libby's case, commonly referred to as the Delphi murders, the case remains unsolved. Law enforcement have elected not to release details about the case. They have kept the autopsy reports, photos, and cause of death confidential in order to maintain the integrity of the case, as well as out of respect for Libby and Abby’s families. The most recent updates in the Delphi Murder case came in January of 2020, when law enforcement released an updated sketch of their suspect, and most recently, a virtual reality crime scene recreation which provides a 360 degree view of the last known location of Abby and Libby.
Libby’s older sister, Kelsi, has become the family’s advocate and continues the fight for justice in the case of Abby and Libby. Updates and contact information can be found at http://www.abbyandlibby.org/
On October 31, 2022, 50-year-old Richard Allen was arrested and charged with the murders of Abigail Williams and Liberty German.
