Overview of Aryndel Castro
Resolved
The remains of Aryndel Castro, a man who disappeared nearly eight years ago, have been discovered buried five feet under a garage in Connecticut, leading to murder charges against two men, Shawn Gibson and Terrance Boyd. The Bridgeport police stated that both men allegedly beat and choked Castro to death on September 22, 2013. Afterward, they went to The Home Depot to purchase cleaning supplies for an "elaborate clean-up effort." They also rented a van and transported Castro's body multiple times in a large plastic bag in the days following the murder.
According to the arrest warrant affidavit, after his arrest on Thursday, Gibson confessed to disposing of Castro's body and led the detectives to the location where the young man's remains were buried, under the detached garage of Gibson's cousin's house. Detective Chris LaMaine emerged from the crawl space with Castro's remains, which were later confirmed by a medical examiner.
The case had remained a mystery for almost a decade after Castro was reported missing in September 2013. The Bridgeport police department's homicide unit eventually took on the case, leading to the recent discovery of Castro's remains. Boyd, who was arrested in South Carolina on Wednesday, has admitted to assisting Gibson in the murder. Castro's brother expressed his gratitude for the police's unrelenting efforts in finding his brother's killers and bringing some form of closure to his family. Gibson has been charged with murder and is being held on a $250,000 bond, while Boyd will be extradited to Connecticut to face charges.
