Overview of Athena Curry
Athena Joy Curry was a mother, sister, daughter, and friend. Athena was the youngest of five siblings and enjoyed playing softball and running track.
She was only 20 years old at the time of her disappearance. She was raised in Portland Oregon but living in Atlanta, Georgia. She had a young son whom she absolutely adored. Athena had dreams of becoming a pediatrician and was enrolled at the University of Phoenix.
The day she went missing.
Athena had plans to spend Memorial Day weekend with Yusef and her son, at Yusef’s home in Atlanta. During the early morning hours of Friday, May 27, 2011, Athena and Yusef got into an argument after Athena found text messages from another woman on Yusef’s phone. While Yusef told police it was a ‘minor’ argument, the couple had a tumultuous relationship. On one occasion, Yusef was arrested in 2010 after he hit Athena.
At 3:00 am on May 27, Athena stormed out of Yusef’s home, wearing only a tank top and shorts. She did not take her son or any other belongings. It would be 4 days later when Yusef would inform Athena’s family of her disappearance. Neither Yusef nor Athena had a car, therefore when Athena left, it was on foot.
She is black, 5 feet 8 inches tall, 150 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. Her nose and lower lip are pierced, and she has several tattoos, including the words "King Kare" on her left arm; a bow wrapped around her left arm; a rose and the word "Rocky" on her right wrist; a music note on the left side of her neck; and a tribal symbol on the top of her left hand. She was 20 years old when she went missing.
