Overview of Dwayne Alphonse
This family is no stranger to the loss of a loved one due to gun violence. Tragedy has hit this family 5 times within the past 21 years, including Alphonse's father. But this time, it was 19 year old Dwayne "Red" "Dee" Edward Alphonse, a student who would've turned 20 in August. His grandfather described him as a teen who "kept to himself. A nice boy, never got into any trouble."
Around 10:30 pm, shots rang out on Sunday, June 25, 2017; someone shot Alphonse. Police responded to a shots fired call and found him face up on a neighbor's lawn. He was unresponsive, hit multiple times, and pronounced dead at the scene. Alphonse became the 93rd person murdered in New Orleans that year.
Authorities do not have a motive or a suspect at this time, but they hope someone will come forward.
