Overview of Joshua Brooks
Joshua Jamal Brooks, was only 18 years old when he lost his life to gun violence. He had a huge family and tons of friends who loved him.
On Saturday, March 12, 2011, Joshua attended a party for teens at the B&L Restaurant and Lounge, located at 700 Port St. in New Orleans. It was shortly before 12 a.m. when someone opened fire and fled the scene after striking Joshua multiple times in the head, chest, and neck. A total of five victims had been hit that night, but Joshua was the only one who passed away that evening. The other four victims suffered from gunshot wounds to their bodies, which included a young female who was listed in critical condition, a 14, 15, and 17-year-old males who were also listed in stable condition.
A neighbor heard multiple gunshots and immediately ran to the window while on the phone with 911. She stated that she saw teengers running away in all directions to try to get away from the shooter. She was somewhat surprised to see that the patrons of the bar were teens vs adults as usually the clientele consisted of adults, not teenagers.
Investigators are still looking for possible suspects and motives, and no arrests have been made. This case is still open.
