Josh was a firefighter and had begun an EMT program. He finished an exam at 3:30pm on Thursday, December 10th. His shift at Harborview Medical Center was to start two hours later. When he didn't show up, his coworkers alerted authorities.

Police used phone records and banking information to discover he had made a purchase the next day at a Target near his home. Surveillance video shows him at a Target near his home the next morning. Josh's car was found and identified two days later in a parking lot near a bridge at Deception Pass State Park. The site is often used by people wanting to end their own life. There is no netting or guardrails in place to prevent people from jumping. An emergency phone has been installed near the bridge to encourage people to connect to the Suicide Prevention Line. It is estimated 2-3 people commit suicide from the bridge each year.

A search ensued but Joshua was never found. His family held a memorial service in his honor in March 2016.

Joshua is missing and presumed dead. Authorities found no evidence of foul play at the time of his disappearance.
