Overview of Kyrisha Armstrong
Kyrisha Seanae Armstrong was a beautiful 21 year old who had her whole life ahead of her. She was someone's mother, daughter, sister, and friend and had many people who loved and needed her. But someone took that all away when they opened fire on a vehicle that she was in.
It was a sunny day with temperatures reaching 82 degrees that Tuesday, 10/25/2016. The time was 3:25 pm. Kyrisha was sitting in the back seat of a gray vehicle with her boyfriend Moses, Moses' brother Rufus, an unidentified male, and a 2 year old child. They were parked at 6549 Virgilian Street in the Pines Village neighborhood in New Orleans. On the same street, there is a playground and the Ray Abrams Elementary School, but the school was being rebuilt at the time of the shooting. A neighbor stated that he was inside his home when he heard "a lot" of gunshots. Those gunshots came from an unknown black male who opened fire on the gray vehicle with a carload of people inside.
When authorities responded to the shooting, they found that no one else was shot except for Kyrisha, who had been shot in the back. About 3:50 pm, the ambulance transporting Kyrisha to the hospital collided with a red pickup truck towing a boat. Within 10 minutes of the accident, another ambulance was dispatched to the crash scene and took over. Kyrisha eventually made it to the hospital but later died from her injuries. At the crime scene, at least a dozen evidence markers could be seen on the street and sidewalk, and another dozen could be seen just past another intersection on South Laverne Street.
Within hours of Kyrisha's death, Moses and his brother Rufus were arrested for obstruction of justice. The charges stemmed from contradictory statements about the shooting and tossing the guns they used to return fire. Surveillance video captured when the two brothers returned fire on the shooter. When questioned separately about the identity of the unknown 3rd male in the vehicle, the brothers gave the authorities two different names, one being Chris and the other as Ronald. Authorities do not have a motive or a suspect, but they hope someone will come forward. This case is still open.
