Mary Elizabeth Loper went missing on May 29, 2002, from Lucedale, Mississippi. She was last seen at approximately 10:00 p.m. at her home in the 200 block of Clarence Bonnett Road. When she disappeared, she was wearing a light yellow tee shirt, cut-off blue jean shorts and white athletic shoes.

Mary's husband, Jonathan Carl Loper, claimed his six-year-old son woke him up at 4:00 a.m. the next day and Mary was gone. Mary and Carl had a happy relationship until the late 90s, when Mary began using methamphetamines.

On the day of Mary's disappearance, she called her mother from the hospital emergency room and told her that Carl had injured her during an argument. Her sister also received a call from her saying she was afraid Carl would hurt her. Mary's mother and sister reported her missing the next day.

Police found some blood at the home, but it may have been from the cut Mary had received the night before. They also found marijuana plants and arrested Carl for drug possession. He was already on bond for another drug charge and an assault charge from 2001.

Despite a search of the area, Mary's case remains unsolved and there is no evidence of foul play. Mary is the mother of three sons who are now in the custody of their grandparents.
