Nancy Lorraine Robinson and her husband, James, served as caretakers of Winters Creek Equestrian Ranch in Washoe Valley, Nevada, situated along southbound U.S. Highway 395. The couple had been working at the ranch for several months before their mysterious disappearance in 1982, with no signs of discontent.

The Robinsons were last seen on the ranch property on March 6, 1982, by customers who had rented horses for a day. Unable to complete a full ride, the couple encouraged the family to return the next day to finish their excursion free of charge.

When the customers returned on March 7, they found the property locked and left. A construction worker, who had been working on the ranch, arrived on the morning of March 8 and discovered a broken window and blood on the front steps of the living quarters.

Upon further investigation, authorities found large pools of blood inside the Robinsons' home, along with evidence of a struggle. Though the house was not in disarray, several expensive saddles and pieces of jewelry were missing, while other valuables remained.

The Robinsons' truck was found abandoned on Highway 50, en route to Lake Tahoe, on March 8, 1982. Blood was also found in the vehicle, along with some of the missing saddles and jewelry. However, tests conducted in 1982 could not determine the blood types found in the living quarters or the truck. Firearms in both the residence and the truck had not been fired.

The ranch's owners reported speaking with the Robinsons over the phone on the night of March 6, with no indication of any problems. Interestingly, the main house at Winters Creek Equestrian Ranch had burned down three months prior to the couple's disappearance. Both Nancy and James were scheduled to undergo polygraph tests related to the suspected arson but vanished before their appointments. No one has been charged in connection with the fire or the couple's disappearances.

Since then, the Robinsons have not been seen, and foul play is suspected in their cases.
