In October 14, 2006, Samuel Savage Becker Boehlke went missing while hiking with his father at Crater Lake National Park in Oregon. He ran ahead of his father and disappeared.

An extensive search of the park turned up no sign of him. The weather conditions were cold, wet and snowy at the time of his disappearance, and it is believed that he could not have survived for long without shelter.

Foul play is not suspected in his disappearance; it is believed that he got lost or injured and died in the park. A memorial service was held for him by his family in November 2006.
