Overview of Vincent Grant
Who was Vincent Grant? Well, he was many things. Vincent was a family man; it’s hard not to be when you have two sons, you’re one out of five brother and sisters, and you have an enormous extended family. To Vincent, being a part of and present for the family he created and was born into was a significant part of his life, and it something he was remembered for. As a mother’s son, brother to his siblings, father to his children, and extension of extended family, Vincent Grant was loved and remembered by so many of his loved ones as a man that lived and breathed family. It was even more impressive that Vincent could balance his family life with his work life.
Vincent was described as a hard worker and successful entrepreneur who had plans to open his own tobacco shop. He created momentum in his work and persona life, intentionally applying to the areas that mattered most to him. Vincent didn’t live a flashy life and the terms “life of the party” or “social butterfly weren’t used to describe him; however, the terms “sweet”, “loving”, and “beautiful” were used to describe and remember Vincent as someone who was subtly profound, gave off a warm glow, and was gentle soul.
The morning of Vincent and Victoria’s murder was shrouded in mystery. Around 8:00 am the morning of September 22, 2016, Victoria Valdez made breakfast for her 14 year old son and 9 year old daughter before sending them off to school. Shortly after her children left home, Vincent Grant arrived. No sources detail where Vincent was coming from or the exact reason why he and Victoria were meeting. According to sources, Vincent was either potential friend or business partner of Victoria Valdez, while her friends state they had no clue who he was. Sometime between 8:00 am and 3:00 pm, an unknown guest entered Victoria's home and shot Victoria and Vincent in the head.
The crime scene was disturbing. Vincent and Victoria's bodies were first found around 3:00 pm by a teenage neighbor boy who was friends with Victoria's 14 year old son. This neighbor boy noticed that Victoria's son wasn't on the bus that day and went to her home to check on him. When he arrived at the home, he found the door ajar and upon further inspection found Vincent Grant sprawled face down near the front door and Victoria Valdez dead in the kitchen. He ran to get help from Robert Christopher, a nearby neighbor who was outside watering his flowers. He hysterically explained to Christopher that two people were dead in the house down the street.
Christopher, who didn't believe the boy at first, ran to the house with the neighbor boy. He peeked through the window, saw Vincent Grant's body, and ran back to his home where he asked his wife to call police.
Police received the 911 call of a person potentially shot around 4:00 pm. When police arrived on the scene, they pronounced both victims dead. Victoria had been killed by gunshot wounds to the head, but they were unsure of what killed the man.
Around 7:00 pm, numerous fights broke out at the crime scene, and police had to move the crime scene back to keep the peace. The same night, police confirm they had a person of interest. The next day, a coroner confirms both victims died to gunshot wounds to the head.
Where the case stands today. Today, Vincent's and Victoria’s case still remains an open cold case. There are no recent developments for updates in the double homicide, which leaves a couple questions to be answered. Who killed Vincent Grant and Victoria Valdez? Will Victoria's father ever get an answer in this double murder? What can be done to help Vincent and Victoria get justice?
