Wynant was a U.S. veteran who vanished at a state park in 1974.

On the first weekend of June in 1974, Wynant’s fiance, Ruth Lyles, dropped him off at Natural Bridge State Park near Slade, KY to spend the weekend camping and fishing. When she arrived to pick him up on June 2, 1974, Wynant was nowhere to be found.

The search for Wynant began immediately.

Later on the same day, two fishermen found Wynant’s clothing and his billfold near Mill Creek Lake within the park. In the following days, personnel with the Stanton Fire Department, Forestry Service, Wolfe County Sheriff's Office, and the Powell County Highway Department, along with park rangers, maintenance personnel and even bloodhounds continued searching for any sign of Wynant. Specifically, authorities were searching for a black zipper bag and two blankets that Wynant had with him when he was dropped off at the park. Nothing else is found during any of the searches.

Where the case stands today.

Today, more than 48 years have passed since Wynant has been seen or heard from. His case has remained unsolved ever since, due to the lack of new information being sent in to or being found by investigators.

At the time of his disappearance in 1974, Wynant was described as a 29 year old caucasian man with brown hair and blue eyes. He was 5’11” tall and weighed between 150-190 lbs.
